Mike Herdering is a self-taught photographer living in southern California.
He purchased his first SLR as a teen in the '70s and processed his images in his bedroom closet.
He developed his art skills in classes at L. A. Valley College and Cal State L. A.
Today, he's a retired software engineer, and his passions are in landscape and hummingbird photography.
Mike has been using digital SLRs since 2004 and has displayed his work at local art shows and galleries in
Altadena, Monrovia, Pasadena and Sierra Madre.
His landscapes, primarily from the U.S. southwest, range from the familiar (Yosemite, Monument Valley, Grand Canyon) to the not-so-familiar (Coal Mine Canyon, North and South Coyote Buttes, AZ and Isle of Skye, Scotland). His Allen's, Anna's and Rufous hummingbird images are mostly taken in his garden in Arcadia. He has also traveled to the California and Arizona deserts to shoot Broad-Billed, Costa's and Black-chinned hummingbirds, which are not common in Arcadia.
Mike processes and prints his own images, and attempts to display the beauty of the scene in a realistic manner, whether the conditions of the capture were ideal or not. Please, enjoy the view!
Welcome to the photography of Michael C Herdering.
